The Department of Academic Support and Wellness Services offers a wide range of professional and psychological services to support the emotional wellbeing and personal development of students enrolled at Dar Al-Hekma University.

Our counseling services help students:

  • Overcome difficulties in both their personal and academic lives.

  • Explore feelings and emotions that are related to their experiences.

  • Discover their personal traits and skills.

  • Acknowledge their weaknesses and work towards growth and development.

  • Identify their ambitions, goals and prepare a plan to fulfill them.

The academic support office offers a number of career advising services to ensure that students at Dar Al-Hekma university are prepared for success in their careers after graduation. Those services include individual workshops covering the following topics, just to name a few:


  • Choosing the right major through administering career interest assessment

  • Job interview skills

  • Writing CVs

  • Writing Linked In Profile

  • Career planning

  • Career success skills



The Academic Support Unit offers the following services:

  • Psycho-educational assessment: when intervention is necessary, a referred student completes a comprehensive assessment so that her strengths and weaknesses are identified  to decide whether she has a learning difficulty of some sort or not. Such an assessment would aid in providing the adequate learning support for the student and the necessary measures for her to comfortably take exams.  

  • Math Support Lab:  The Math Lab provides students with tutoring sessions delivered by student tutors and math instructors to help  them develop their mathematical skills and to give them support in their math courses.

  • Workshops: Workshops are offered to focus on enhancing students' skills in a number of areas in support of their learning. Topics covered may include: time management, test taking strategies, note taking skills, and effective study skills.

CENTRAL ACADEMIC ADVISING UNIT (CAADU)

​The Central Academic Advising Unit (CAADU), under the supervision of the Provost Office, is the chief   academic advising support system for students at the University. It is managed by the Head of Academic Advising Unit   and consists of a team of Central Academic Advisors (CAA) who are each responsible for the University's different undergraduate programs and their respective academic advisors. ​

ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES

The Academic Support Services Office is committed to enriching the academic experience of students and to help them overcome any academic hurdles they may have. Students who experience academic challenges  are referred to the Office of Academic Support Services Office where   their individual needs are addressed according to specific and individualized plans of action.

The services offered include:

  • ​​Psycho-educational Assessment: 

when necessary, a comprehensive assessment of the referred students is administered to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Such an assessment helps in providing the adequate learning support for those students and implementing necessary accommodations they might need while taking tests in the different courses they are enrolled in.

  • Tutorials:

Tutorials are conducted either one- on-one or in small groups as a support for students who need to develop their mathematical literacy, improve their time management, and enhance their study skills. It can involve peer tutoring or booking sessions with a specialized instructor.

  • ​Workshops:

Workshops focus on enhancing students' skills in a number of areas in support of their learning. Topics covered may include effective study skills, time management and test-taking strategies.

MATH SUPPORT LAB

The Math Support Lab offers support and accommodates students with difficulties in Math and mathematical literacy skills through individualized support. Tutoring sessions are offered t
o students on a one-on-one basis or in small group settings. 

ENGLISH WRITING STUDIO

Rm. 234, Ext. 641
The Writing Studio strives to help students become better writers by guiding them to improve their writing skills It offers scheduled one-on -one tutoring sessions to assist students overcome problems in paragraph development, organization, word choice, punctuation, sentence structure, reference citation, and much more. These sessions will enable students to learn productive habits in pre-writing, in the actual writing process, and above all in critically evaluating their work through introducing radical changes in their approach to writing.
The Studio welcomes students by appointment or as walk-ins upon availability.

ARABIC WRITING STUDIO

Rm. 146-6, Ext. 177

The Center helps students overcome difficulties they may face in the Arabic language courses as well as helping them improve their Arabic Language skills.

SPEECH, LANGUAGE AND HEARING SCIENCES CLINIC

Rm. 171, Ext. 302
The Speech, Language and Hearing clinic at Dar Al-Hekma serves students with language, fluency, and articulation and voice problems. The clinic offers free assessment and treatment services provided by speech-language pathology assistants. Dar Al-Hekma Students are encouraged to benefit from this service especially if it is affecting their academic performance and communication skills.
