Dar Al-Hekma signed a contract with Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) to develop a curriculum, structure, and support for launching a university.
Dar Al-Hekma University launched with the attendance of late King Abdullah Al-Saud (Crown Prince at the time). The University started with 3 majors: MIS, Interior Design, and Special Education, and a College Preparation Program
Two majors: Graphic Design and Nursing were added.
Banking and Finance was added as a major.
Legal Studies was added as a major. It became the first legal studies program for females in Saudi Arabia. Four years after the program was launched, females were permitted to practice law in the Kingdom.
Dar Al-Hekma became the first institution in Saudi Arabia to receive accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), Washington, DC.
Speech Learning and Hearing Sciences was added as a major.
Two majors Architecture and Fashion Design were added.
Dar Al-Hekma launched an MBA program developed by Berkeley University.
Dar Al-Hekma received Saudization award from the Ministry of Labor for having a high ratio of Saudi talent.
Dar Al-Hekma launched the Master of Art in International Relations program. Developed in collaboration with Tufts University, USA, it became the first such program to be launched in Saudi Arabia. Dar Al-Hekma received best employer award for an educational institution from the Minister of Labor. It was the first time an academic institution won such an award.
Dar Al-Hekma received university status from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Higher Education.
On 14 September 2015 Dar Al-Hekma became the first Arab institution to enter the Guinness World Record for Mental Literacy.
Dar Al-Hekma received for the second time the NCAAA Accreditation from the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment.
