Course Description:
This course teaches core concepts and techniques that can be applied to any
workflow, including digital and print publications. Adobe Illustrator is the world's most
powerful vector-based drawing program. It is typically used to create illustrations,
charts, graphs, logos, diagrams, cartoons of real photographs, and more.

Printmaking Course
This course introduces the methodologies and concepts of traditional printmaking processes and the basics of color printing. It provides an overview of the tools, methods, and materials for making two-dimensional printed artworks with particular focus on how manual printing and traditional techniques relate to contemporary concepts and individual art practice. The course focuses on experimentation and exploration of new ideas.

1. Introduction to Design Principles
This course emphasizes the core fundamentals of 2-D design as the building blocks of graphic design literacy. Through lectures and hands-on assignments, students gain a working knowledge of 2D design concepts. They are also introduced to a visual vocabulary required to communicate within the visual communication field.
2. Raster Graphics, Photoshop
This course focuses on the essential technical skills required for the successful execution and interpretation of visual communication briefs. Students are introduced to raster-based program as the building blocks of 2D graphic design. Photoshop offers users the ability to create, enhance, or otherwise edit images, artwork, and illustrations. Changing
backgrounds, simulating a real-life painting, and much more are all possible with Adobe Photoshop.

4. Typography
This course provides students with a basic understanding of the principles of typesetting and typographic layout. Students are introduced to the design and use of basic letterforms, typographic contrast, hierarchy of information, major type families and their characteristics, and typographic grids.
5. Editorial Design, InDesign
This course is an introduction to editorial design during which students will learn how to use graphic and digital design within a range of formats. Projects will represent various real-life challenges faced when designing within different formats. Students will be exposed to the commercial and industrial aspects of the graphic design profession, including the vocabulary necessary to effectively communicate with professionals in the skilled trades. Students will learn how to control and apply grid structures to sequential formats, express typographic hierarchy, consider the effects of subject matter on creative decision making, and apply more advanced methods of design programs.
6. Publishing, Printing, and Packaging Solutions
This course reviews the stages and processes of print production and the field of publishing from client brief through to print-ready files. It exposes students to the commercial and industrial aspects of the graphic design profession, including the vocabulary necessary to effectively communicate with professionals in the skilled trades. Students learn how to develop ideas verbally and in writing, manage client relations, and take directions.
7. Infographics
Students will learn about why infographics are effective, what makes a good infographic, and how to plan and design an infographic for maximum impact. They will also explore various approaches to data visualization, and practice creating visualizations like maps, charts, flow charts, and simple drawings in Adobe Illustrator. Students will be introduced to workflows for collecting, analyzing, storyboarding and producing visual stories. This course emphasizes how the finished infographic will engage the target audience and clearly convey information through the effective use of design elements such as infographic types/styles, typography, color, and structure.
8. Multimedia & Creative Practice
This course introduces students to professional video creation. Students will review camera types, settings, embedding videos for use in websites, production for final footage, understanding technical aspects such as: creating interstitials, storyboards, use of lighting and camera angles. The course will also introduce students to basic film editing programs, how to upload videos using assets and sound. Students will create a short video from script to completion. Other topics include working with lighting and audio, post production editing, and more.
9. Advertising & Branding
In this course, students examine advertising and branding as the foundation of contemporary practice in graphic design. They apply the various stages of the development of an advertising campaign and also branding strategies. Students will also analyze and produce marketing visual communication messages.
10. Corporate Identity
This course explores the issues of corporate identity and branding within an Arabic-speaking environment. Students learn to analyze and develop corporate identity systems, along with supportive promotional and marketing materials. Emphasis is placed on visualizing corporate identity, applying visual systems to support the identity, and understanding one's audience.
11. Job Preparation
This course is intended to teach students how to present themselves and their work at a job interview, and what to do after the interview. It also trains students to write proposals and contracts for client-commissioned projects, appropriately estimate the costs and charge for their work, and how to manage complexities of client relationships, especially when it comes to defining an acceptable number of revisions. Students will also learn effective presentation skills that are necessary for a good designer to become a great designer. Students are also instructed on how to present their ideas which would impact how willing clients are to make investments in them.
