The First Saudi Applied Behavior Analysis Symposium

ABA Through the Looking Glass: Past, Present, & Future

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), is the scientific study of human behavior. This science involves the application of basic principles of behavior such as positive reinforcement to teach socially significant behaviors (e.g., learning to read, write, greet, sit). There are many misconceptions about what ABA is, and what it is not. For example, many think that ABA is limited in its application as a therapy for children with autism. Others believe that it is only good for modifying problematic behavior. Nonetheless, ABA has many positive implications for individuals in any society and that is what we aim to bring to light.

The following Symposium, ABA Through The Looking Glass: Past, Present, and Future, is designed to shed light on the importance of ABA as a science, as well as to examine the development of the field in Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf Region. The conference will tell a story about ABA, starting with why it is socially significant, the progression of the field in Saudi Arabia and the Arab region, how it impacted the lives of so many parents and children, and ends with discussions about the future of ABA in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. The symposium also includes a number of workshops designated to families and professionals that cover some of the many different aspects or applications of ABA.
