Graduate Studies Unit


Mission

To sustain an environment for developing graduate programs that contribute to knowledge economy.


Tasks or services:


  • Setting the general frameworks, standards, and rules governing graduate studies programs at the university.

  • Coordinating with the directors of graduate studies programs at the university and the director of Admission and Registration Department, and other related concerned departments to ensure adherence to graduate studies programs regulations.

  • Supervising the development of graduate studies programs including joint graduate programs as well as the modification of existing programs.

  • Overseeing the implementation of the admission requirements for graduate studies programs.

  • Overseeing the implementation of the registration policies for graduate studies programs.

  • Providing recommendations to the Standing Committee regarding academic degrees and certificates as proposed by Department and School Councils.

  • Set the guidelines for forming supervisory and thesis defense committees in collaboration with the department chairs and directors of graduate studies programs at the university.

  • Set the general frameworks and standards for the comprehensive exam and the graduation research in collaboration with the department chairs and directors of graduate studies programs at the university.

  • Set the overall framework for research plans and the rules governing thesis writing in collaboration with the department chairs and directors of graduate studies programs at the university.

  • Prepare all forms needed for the graduate studies programs (i.e. development of new programs, thesis defense committee reports, thesis evaluation form, etc.) in collaboration with the department chairs, directors of graduate studies programs and related concerned departments at the university.

  • Providing recommendations to the Standing Committee regarding the programs' proposals to terminate graduate studies programs that do not comply with the university's strategy.

  • Evaluating the periodic reports related to graduate studies programs that are submitted by the academic departments at the university (including the Annual Program Report).

  • Providing the Vice-President of Graduate Studies, Research & Business Division with progress reports of graduate studies programs in a periodic manner.

  • Overseeing the implementation of the accreditation process for graduate studies programs in collaboration with Academic Affairs Division.

  • Overseeing the status for graduate studies programs.

  • Overseeing the implementation of the curriculum review process for graduate studies programs in collaboration with Deans of schools, department chairs, and directors of graduate studies programs at the university.

  • Overseeing the graduate students' issues in collaboration with Students Affairs Division.

  • Coordinating with the School Deans at the university to set the schools' business plans for its graduate studies programs.

  • Preparing and follow up on all matters related to the University's Graduate Studies Standing Committee.
