The Conference on Creativity, Technology and Sustainability, 2024 at Dar Al-Hekma University
Towards a Sustainable, Creative, Educational, and Social Environment
Dar Al-Hekma University held its two-day “Conference on Creativity, Technology and Sustainability" 2024 under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on the 15th and 16th of May corresponding to the 7th and 8th of Dhul-Qi'dah 1445 AH.
The conference, which is the third conference held at Dar Al-Hekma University, attracted a distinguished group of experts, academicians, and local and international officials to discuss interconnected topics about creativity, technology, and sustainability which are central in realizing the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The conference discussed best practices in technology and scientific research that enhance the understanding of technological progress which enables innovation, development, and facing global challenges. The role of advanced technology in sustainable development and digital transformation was also central to the discussion sessions of the conference, in addition to the areas of management, policies, and ethics that help in fostering sustainable development.
The speakers highlighted the role of education in raising awareness of sustainability through dialogue sessions moderated by a group of experts, academicians, and local and international officials. During those sessions, interconnected topics related to the three main themes of the conference, namely creativity, technology, and sustainability were discussed together with the research aspects that enhance the understanding of the technological progress, which in turn enables innovation and development. There were also consultation sessions provided by the Center of Digital Entrepreneurship (CODE). The conference also comprised a number of workshops that enrich creativity and develop basic skills that contribute to the fruition of sustainability.
Other than that, the conference had an area allocated for the display of scientific papers and posters of researchers and Dar Al-Hekma University students, who participated by presenting a number of scientific papers and posters.
Attendees of the conference exceeded 800, and the number of papers presented was 170 papers from 24 countries around the world. Sixty accepted papers were published in an exclusive issue about the conference by the international publisher Springer.
The President of the University, Dr. Abeer Al-Deghaither, commented on the conference, saying:
“This conference embodies the values of the University, which seeks to anticipate the future, and monitor its developments in order to be an active partner in the various aspects of development. There is no doubt that the three main topics of the conference: creativity, innovation, and sustainability represent an essential pillar in any renaissance of civilizations. The conference reflects the University's strategic plan that seeks to foster scientific and cultural collaborations with local and international institutions, with the participation of experts in knowledge and culture from the Kingdom and abroad at the regional and global levels."
