Dar Al-Hekma University’s Architecture Department is proud to announce the inauguration of Architecture Research Week, which will include a two-day Architecture Research Conference and a two-day Student Research Forum.

The conference will explore “The Future of Architectural Education in the Middle East: Enriching the Discipline Through Interdisciplinary Dialogue.”

Academics and architectural professionals will address a wide range of issues under the following tracks:

Track 1: Architecture Pedagogy

Track 2: Interdisciplinary Discussions in the Field

Keynote talks by Dr. Howayda Al-Harithy, Professor of Architecture at the American University of Beirut, whose work combines theory with practice, and Dr. Ashraf M. Salama, Professor of Architecture and Head of the Department of Architecture at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, U.K., a specialist in, among other things, architectural education, will initiate what promises to be a lively and stimulating discussion about a topic of pressing importance for architecture educators and professionals alike in the Middle East. The research papers will be published in conference proceedings to help disseminate presenters’ insights.

The Architecture Research Conference will offer many opportunities for networking, including a special tour of Jeddah’s historic Al-Balad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a private dinner featuring traditional Saudi cuisine held in one of Jeddah’s historic houses.

The Student Research Forum will showcase the research of promising female architecture students from the Kingdom. In line with Saudi Vision 2030, the Student Research Forum will help encourage architecture students to produce original, thoughtful research that has the potential to contribute real-world solutions in the fields of architecture and urbanism.

The student research papers will be organized under the following tracks:

Track 1: The Human Dimension: Social, Psychological, and Cultural Perspectives

Track 2: The Environmental Dimension: Engineering and Sustainable Solutions

Track 3: The Digital Dimension: BIM, Digital Fabrication, Parametric Design and Beyond
