The Architecture Department's Outreach Initiative in High Schools in Jeddah
In 2018, the Architecture Department initiated a School Outreach program for students from different high schools throughout Jeddah. This awareness campaign introduced high school students to the value of architecture and the fundamental role it plays in our lives. The high school students also learned about the importance of architectural education in shaping the professional development of architects. This program not only promoted the Architecture Department, but also the university as a whole, demonstrating that Dar Al-Hekma University is one of the leading universities in Jeddah and the Kingdom.
This successful initiative was led by Dr. Sherin Sameh, Assistant Professor, and her team of eleven distinguished architecture students (Mashael AlShehri, Afnan Bokhari, Sumaya Felemban, Amna Elidrissy, Aseel Almati, Rawaf Nahas, Nada Bakri, Ragad AlBadri, Ruba Tuhaif Lujain Abousabha, and Reem Al Sherif), and two of our staff members: Ms. Taif Hassan and Ms. Malak Alsaadi.
During 2018-2019 academic year, Dr. Sherin and her team visited three high schools: Almanarat International School, the Green Hills International School, and Jeddah Private School. They engaged Year 11 and 12 students in fun educational activities that left them curious about architecture and received very positive feedback in return. This program was one of many initiatives undertaken by the Architecture Department to increase its exposure among high school students and to build a strong, collaborative network with other educational and professional entities.
Due to our passion and dedication, our message was embraced!
